Microlino Production | Launch in September 2021

Isetta lookalike Microlino to Hit the Street by September 2021

The very first test vehicle of the Microlino 2.0 was built and is now being evaluated, Micro Mobility Systems has stated. Homologation, as well as EU road authorization, are expected to be completed through August of 2021 and manufacturing begins in September shortly thereafter.

It will then be possible to deliver the very first Microlinos. The primary objective is to boost production without compromising quality as soon as possible, the Swiss company stated. The organization is quite pleased with preliminary observations.

“We can already say that the driving behavior of Microlino 1.0 has improved significantly,” Merlin Ouboter, the CMO of Mocrolino AG, states in a blog post.

The firm had declared five vehicle prototypes previously in December 2020. With the latest designs, the company maintains the same data with a range of approximately 200 km and a price of about EUR 12,000.

The current vehicle focuses on chassis and body functional tests, which still lack functionalities such as the continuous LED strip in front of the vehicle. “These features will be built into the next prototypes step by step,” Ouboter says.

He is referring to the self-supporting body of the Microlino 2.0.0, which is made out of aluminum and pressed steel parts. Basically, Version 1.0 is still premised on a chassis with only a tubular frame.

In March, later this year, a prototype is due. A third prototype will follow by April or May.  Microlino wants to deduce the prototype phase with this prototype, as a time schedule that has since been published shows.

In June, prototypes 4 and 5 are also to follow, which are likely to be pre-production models. With these vehicles, the company wants to begin with the homologation procedure. EU approval, as stated above, is aimed for August, because then the car can be manufactured and shipped by September.

A launch event is set to occur prior to the homologation in the summer, during which the configurator will also be launched.

The very first tools will already have been constructed in the prototype phase, as per Microlino, and body panels are noted as an example.

The Swiss business wishes to “lose as little time as it can” The construction of pre-series vehicles is all ready to begin in parallel along with the homologation assessments, for which Microlino estimates 2-3 months.

Following an out-of-court settlement with Artega as well as TMI in the scenario of the Microlino copy Karolino (now sold as Karo-Isetta) announced in January 2020, Micro Mobility confirmed that it would work in turn with the Italian firm CECOMP to bring an improved version of the Microlino to design and manufacture it.

The team named the visually and technically revised Microlino 2.0 model, which should have “much better handling, better ergonomics, better repairability” and also be “producible in large numbers” according to Merlin Ouboter at the time.

Because the Geneva Motor Show was canceled in March 2020, the Swiss company introduced a virtual presentation of the small electric car.
