Kia Motors (UK) Limited has maintained its lead in battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in the United Kingdom this year, with the e-Niro remaining the country’s best-selling BEV for the second month in a row.

In February, the company sold 2,873 units in the UK across its entire model lineup, reflecting a 5.6 percent market share. Despite competitive market conditions, the brand’s sales success was aided by the rising demand for electric and hybrid vehicles.

“The market still faces major challenges, even with an increasing sense of optimism across the country,” said Paul Philpott, President & CEO of Kia Motors (UK) Limited.

Electrified variants* made up for 45.7 percent of Kia’s sales volumes in February and up to more than a third of the brand’s overall year-to-date sales (35.5 percent).

Kia BEVs account for nearly one in five (19%) of all fully-electric vehicles sold in the UK so far this year when combined with sales of the Soul EV (41 units in February, 105 year-to-date).

Kia’s dealer network joins March with a validated set of programs in place to help customers complete their purchase remotely, even though showrooms are still closed. Most dealers in the UK now offer an online “click and collect” service and a variety of online networking tools, such as “Online Chat,” to assist customers in making secure transactions.

Nonetheless, our dealer network is working hard to ensure that customers securely receive their vehicles. Meanwhile, thanks to our long-term product strategy and emphasis on electrification, we can provide a diverse range of vehicles and innovative powertrains to meet our customers’ changing needs.”

Kia Corporation announced plans to launch seven new dedicated EVs between now and 2027 as part of its ‘Plan S’ mid-to-long-term growth strategy at the beginning of 2021.
